Backtest any strategy in plain words

Type it or say it. See every trade it would have taken on real prices.

How it works

  1. Describe. Type or say the strategy the way you would explain it to a friend: when you enter, where the stop goes, when you get out. Or tap a tested strategy and see its result at once.
  2. Test. Press Test it. Edge turns your words into exact rules and runs them bar by bar on real prices. A signal acts only after its candle closes, and the trade enters on the next one. If your strategy leaves a rule out, you choose: the best fit, each rule yourself, or Super Edge.
  3. Tweak. Change the stop, the target, the candles or the history and the result redraws on the spot. Your last 12 runs stay in your strip, so you see what each change did.

What it can test

Entries and filters

Price against moving averages (EMA and SMA), RSI levels, VWAP on stocks and crypto, the opening range high and low, the previous day's high, low and close, and the central pivot range. A rule can say a line crosses above or below another, or simply sits above or below it. Up to four conditions can all be required for one side.

Stops and targets

Stops can sit beyond the signal candle, at a recent swing, at a level such as the other side of the opening range or the bottom of the CPR, a multiple of the average true range, a percent from entry or a fixed number of points. Targets can be a multiple of your risk (2R), a percent, points, or none at all.

Exits and limits

A square-off time such as 3:15 pm, an exit on the opposite signal, a cap on trades per day, or holding overnight. Candles come in 5 minute, 15 minute, 1 hour and daily sizes. Costs per side are included: 0.02% on indices, 0.05% on stocks and 0.1% on crypto.

What it does not test

  • Option premiums. An options idea is read as rules on the underlying index, and the result says so.
  • Forex.
  • VWAP on an index, because an index has no traded volume to weigh by.
  • Opening range or VWAP on daily candles, which need intraday bars.
